‘IWANTTOLEARNTOLOVEMYCURVES’

Hewantstoputuponeoftheportraitsinourhouse—perhapsinthediningroom.Moreimportantly,though,I’vemadeapromisetomyselfthatIwillneverdietagain.

Iintendtobringmy17-year-olddaughterforashoot,soshecanseehowincrediblybeautifulherbodyisandsowon’tstartobsessingaboutitthewayIhave.

Iwanthimtorememberthatthegirlhemarried12monthsagoisstillfullofsurprises.ThatIamdaringandunpredictable,andperfectlycapableofrunningoffandhavingastarknakedpicturetakenwithouttellinghimfirst.

Justasimportantly,I’mdoingthisbecauseIwantasetofphotographsofmyselfbeforetimeandchildrentaketheirtollonmybody.

Iwanttobeabletolookattheminyearstocomeandrememberwhatitfeltliketobeayoungwoman,inthesamewayIlookatmyweddingpicturesandinstantlyrecallthedayIgotmarried.

I’vealwayshatedmylegs—I’mconvincedtheyarebiggerandchunkierthantheyactuallyare—butseeingtheshotsmademerealiseit’sallinmyhead.

Iknowmybodyisfarfromperfect,buthavingthesephotographstakenisawayofteachingmenottoagoniseovermylooks.

Ithinkthepictureswillsitinadrawersomewhere,ratherthanbeputonshow.Idon’tthinkAnthonywouldfeelcomfortablehavingthemondisplayinourhomewhenhisfriendscomeround.

Allwomenshouldhaveasetofnudephotographsdone,whatevertheydecidetodowiththem,sotheycanberemindedtherearemoreaspectstothemthanmostpeopleknow.

TakingoffmyclothestobephotographednakedismywayofhammeringthefinalnailintothecoffinofthepersonIbecameafterIwasstruckdownwithpost-nataldepressionfollowingthebirthofmymiddlechild.

Thesepicturesareproofthattherealmeisaliveandkickingagain.

Ihadasetdonefiveyearsagotocelebrategettingmybodybackaftermyfirstpregnancy.Myfavouritepicturefromthatshoothasbeenhangingonourlivingroomwalleversince.Duringmyillness,IwouldlookatitandwonderhowIfoundtheconfidencetodosomethingsobrave.

Atfirst,thatpicturetormentedme.Iwasbarelyfunctioningatthetime—justgettingoutofbedandpullingoncleanclothesfeltlikeahugeeffort.

Battlescars:Hollienowseesherstretchmarkshasacelebrationoflife

Mattwaskeepingthefamilytogether.Hetooktimeoffworktolookafterthechildrenandme;hewasmorelikemycarerthanmyhusband.Ifeltafailureasawomanandasamother.

Itwasmedication,counsellingand,surprisingly,anotherpregnancythatfinallyflickedaswitchinmyhead.BythetimeBrodiewasborn,Iwasfunctioningnormallyagain.

Suddenly,thatpicturegavemesomethingtoaimfor.SoassoonasIlostmybabyweight,IvowedtohaveanothersetofnudephotographstakenasgiftforMatttoshowhimthathehashiswifebackagain.

Iwasmorenervousthistime.Mybodyhascarriedandbreastfedtwomorechildren.I’mnormallyobsessedwithmystretchmarksandthewaymybodyhaschangedafterhavingchildren,but,infact,Irealisedthese‘battlescars’areacelebrationofmylife,howfarI’vecomeandthebeautifulchildrenI’vecarried.

AsIstoodtherenaked,Ifeltreallygoodaboutmyself.AndI’mmoreproudofthesepicturesthantheonestakenwhenIwassomuchyounger.

MybodyandIhavebeenthroughsomuchandthesephotographsaretestamenttothefactI’vesurvived.

Iwillhangmyfavouriteonthewallnexttotheoldphotographwithgreatpride.

‘I’LLHAVETHISASMYSCREENSAVERATWORK!’

Afterall,standingnakedinfrontofastrangerandhavingyourpicturetakentakessomeguts.

ButasthephotographerstartedshootingmeinmyunderwearandkepttellingmehowbeautifulIwas,Ibegantofeelincrediblyglamorous.

Tenminuteslater,whenshesuggestedIgonaked,Ikickedoffmyknickerswithoutathought.

I’msogladIdidit.Ilovemypicturesandplantohaveoneasmyscreensaveratwork.

Anotherwilltakeprideofplaceonmybedroomwall.Idon’tthinkIhaveeverlookedsogood.

ItwasliberatingandIfeltlikeacelebrityasthecameralightsflashed.

ThekickIgotfromthatisjustasprecioustomeasthepictures.
