Teetotal, Teetotaler

Teetotal:

A teetotal lifestyle (금주 생활방식)
Teetotal abstinence (완전 금주禁酒),

Max is a teetotaler himself but will serve his guests cocktails.

Tea
“Total abstinence from alcoholic beverages
has something to do with tea;
One drinks tea totally, nothing stronger.”

Total(완전히, 전적으로, 절대적으로)라는 단어의

“I practice total abstinence, T- total abstinence.” 라고…
“T- total, Tee-total”

Teetotal, Teetotaler, Teetotal lifestyle

A.A meeting

1)
A newly sober member

A newly sober A.A. member sets out to find an A.A. meeting.

Following directions received on the telephone,
He walks into a hall that is part of a large church-complex
and begins to search for the room where the meeting is being held.

The first door he opens reveals a group of children in choir robes,
getting ready to sing.
He closes the door rather quickly… no, That’s not it!

He looks in another door…
Half of a dozen women are sewing and talking. No, That’s not it!

Approaching panic, for he has never felt comfortable in a church,
He walks quickly down the hallway, feeling a little lost,
thinking that if he sees an exit he will take it,
but still hoping to find what came for.

Suddenly a cloud of cigarette smoke wafts down the hallway,
and he smells the bitter, burnt aroma of strong coffee.
He hears voices, and the welcoming sound of people laughing.

Walking faster, he finds a room with the familiar
blue-jacketed books on the table
and the oh-so-trite but now-so-welcome framed mottoes on the wall.

Entering the room, greeted by dozen smiles,
He sighs deeply and smiles back.
He’s found home!

2)
“My name is OOO, and I’m an alcoholic.”

It was a large meeting, well over two hundred people.
At one end of the room stood the canister of regular coffee;
At other end, the pot of decaf.

Conversation around the first coffeepot
Centered on a man who was clearly depressed and afraid.
“I just feel like I’m at the end of my rope,” he admitted.
“It’s one damned thing after another.
Nothing seems to be going right.
This week my dog died, my kids came down with strep throat,
I can’t keep my mind on my work,
My wife and I are fighting connstantly.
I just don’t know how I’m going to make it.”

“Well, son,” an oldtimer said gently,
“At least you don’t take a drink today.”

The conversation at the other end of the room
Centered on a man who exuded good cheer.
“I just feel so wonderful,” he was saying.
“What a week this has been! I got a promotion at work;
My daughter is graduating from college with honors;
My wife and I are like newly married lovers.
And just yesterday I had the best golf game of my life!”

“It all sounds great,” another oldtimer said gently.
“But remember… You’re an alcoholic.
Just one drink will destroy it all.”
