Today,millionsofAmericansandpeoplearoundtheworldarecomingtolovesouthern

gospelmusic,andabigreasonisthepopularityoftheBillandGloriaGaitherHomecoming

concertsandvideos.Formorethan40years,theGaithershavebeenwritingandperformingChristiansongs.

"HeTouchedMe,""There’sSomethingAboutThatName,"andsome600

othersarefeaturedinmanychurchhymnals.But"BecauseHeLives"isperhapsthebestknown.

Inthelate1960s,whileexpectingtheirthirdchild,theGaithersweregoingthroughatraumatictime.

Theirfirstborn,Suzanne,was4,andhersisterAmywasthreemonthsold.

Thetimingforanotherbabywasn’tideal.

Ontopofthat,Billwasrecoveringfromaboutwithmononucleosis.

ThebreakupofthemarriageofBill’ssister,MaryAnn,hadlefthisfamilydevastated.

What’smore,aclosefriend’saccusationthatBillandGloriawereusingtheirministry

justtomakeabuckblindsidedthecoupleandplungedBillintoadeepdepression.

InJuly1970ahealthybaby,Benjamin,wasborn.Inspiredbythemiracleof

theirson’sbirth,"BecauseHeLives"pouredoutoftheGaithers’gratefulhearts.

ThesongclearlyaffirmsthehopebelievershaveinChrist.Wecanfacetomorrow,

withallitsuncertainty,aswerealizethatGodholdsthefutureandmakeslifeworthliving.
