“The Liberty Song” by John Dickman(1732-1808)에 나오는 말이다!

그 노래의 가사는,
1768년 7월 7일字 Pennsylvania Journal 과
Pennsylvania Gazette(官報)에 발표되었고…
또한 1768년 7월 18일字 Boston Gazette 에도 발표되었다.

(John Dickman 은 Philadelphia 사람이었고, 그 때가,
미국이 영국으로부터 독립을 하기 위하여 투쟁을 하던 시대였다.)

그 노래의 가사 속에,
“Come, join hand in hand, brave Americans all,
By uniting we stand, by dividing we fall”
이라는 문구가 나오고 있다.

이 말은,
“United We Stand, Divided We Fall.” 이라는 말과 함께,
미국의 역사에, 여러번 등장하고 있는 말이다!

미국의 독립- 영국 식민지로 부터의 독립-에 관한 역사는
대략 다음과 같이 분류된다.
1) 영국의 식민지 시대(1607-1775년)
