"키스는 사람 몸에서 가장 지저분한 부위(the dirtiest part of the human body)인 입을 비벼댐으로써 서로의 사랑을 확인하는…."
그렇다고는 해도(having said that) 입냄새가 나면(have bad breath) 팝송 제목처럼 ‘Kiss and say goodbye‘하기 십상이다.
농촌진흥청의 한 연구원이 ‘키스 사과’ 아이디어를 제시해(come up with the idea of ‘Kiss Apple’) 화제가 되고 있다.
로이터통신은 "김치와 자극적이고 마늘 냄새 나는 음식의 본고장(home of kimchi and other pungent garlicky food)인 한국에선 입냄새가 주요 관심사(a major concern)"라며 "키스하기 전에 잽싸게 먹을 수 있도록(for quick eating prior to locking lips) 호주머니나 핸드백에 넣어 다닐 만큼 작은(be tiny enough to be stashed in a pocket or handbag) ‘키스 사과’가 한국에서 개발될 예정"이라고 소개했다.
사과는 자연스레 입냄새를 신선하게 해주고(help freshen breath naturally), 치아 사이에 낀 음식 찌꺼기를 제거해준다(remove pieces of food stuck in the teeth). 탁구공 크기의 사과(a ping-pong ball sized apple)가 개발되면 들고 다니기에도(carry around) 편리할 것이다.
일본에선 한 과학도가 ‘인터넷 키스 기계’를 발명(invent an internet kissing machine)했다. 멀리 떨어져 있는 연인들에게 인터넷을 통해 프렌치 키스를 할 수 있도록 해준다고(allow long-distance couples to French kiss over the internet) 한다. 이름하여 ‘입안 소통을 위한 기계(a machine for communications within the mouth)’ ‘키스 전송 장치’ ‘e-키스’라고도 한다.
장치는 동력박스에 플라스틱 빨대가 달려 있어(with a plastic straw attached to a motorized box) 음주측정기와 비슷하게 생겼다(resemble a breathalyzer). 한쪽에서 입술과 혀로 빨대를 조작하면(manipulate the straw with their lips and tongue), 컴퓨터에 움직임들이 저장된(save the movements on a computer) 뒤 상대방 장치로 전송돼 그쪽 빨대도 똑같이 움직이게(move in exactly the same way) 한다. 그걸 물고 있으면 입안에 키스 감촉을 그대로 재현해준다는(recreate the feel of the kiss in the mouth) 것이다.
왕년의 여배우 잉그리드 버그만은 "키스는 말이 불필요해졌을(become superfluous) 때 말을 끊어주는 천생의 사랑스러운 마술(a lovely trick designed by nature)"이라고 했다. 살아생전 그녀가 ‘인터넷 빨대 키스’를 봤다면 뭐라고 했을까.
