미국 워싱턴주(州)의 한 모텔 118호에 투숙한 마약 거래상이 옆방 119호의 공범에게 전화를 건다는 것이 911로 연결돼 현장에 출동한 경찰에 체포됐다.
워싱턴주 웨나치의 라 킨타 모텔 118호에 머물고 있던 한 남자(a man staying in Room 118 of the motel La Quinta)는 지난 19일 아침(현지시각) 방번호 119의 전화번호를 911로 잘못 눌렀다(accidentally dial 911). 이 전화는 결국 자신이 있는 곳으로 경찰팀을 불러들이는 결과를 초래하고(end up bringing a team of law enforcement officers down on himself) 말았다.
범죄 발생 여부를 확인하기 위해 모텔에 도착한(arrive at the motel to find out if there is any crime) 경찰에게 문제의 남자는 전화번호를 잘못 눌렀다고 해명했다(explain his misdialing). 그러나 경찰은 그대로 돌아가지 않았다. 그가 전화를 걸려했던 119호 투숙객의 이름을 요구했다(ask for the name of the person he was calling in Room 119).
경찰은 119호에 있던 여자의 이름으로 신원조회를 해봤고(do a background check on the name of the man in Room 119), 그 결과 그 여자에게 체포영장이 발부돼 있다는(there is a warrant out for his arrest) 사실을 알아냈다.
경찰은 곧바로 119호로 가서 그 여자를 체포했으며, 모텔방에서 0.5온스의 헤로인과 기타 마약들을 발견했다(discover a half ounce of heroin and other drugs in the room). 911로 잘못 걸려온 전화 한 통이 마약 소지 혐의의 두 용의자 검거로 이어진(result in the arrest of two suspects on suspicion of drug possession) 것이다.
결국 29세인 남자는 판매 목적의 5건 규제약물 불법소지 혐의로 체포됐고(be arrested on suspicion of five counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell), 119호 투숙객인 22세의 여자 공범은 판매 목적의 4건 규제약물 불법소지 혐의로 연행됐다(be taken to the police station on suspicion of 4 counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell).
